Flea Sources
If you have a cat or dog, they are a common feeding source for fleas. Humans are also highly sought after as a source of food for these tiny insects. The wingless adult flea can jump great distances. They often live and hide in bedding, sofas, and carpeting. Homes with central heating, carpeting, and pets are ideal for a flea infestation
Infestations can be a year-round issue since the typical cat and dog flea breeds throughout the year. While flea prevention for your pet is a start, it won’t keep fleas hiding in your home.
Because a flea infestation almost always results from the presence of a pet, we offer a complete home management program. In collaboration with you throughout the extermination process, we’ll advise you about preventive measures to avoid future problems.
Troublesome Ticks
Ticks can carry diseases such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Lyme disease, and ehrlichiosis. Symptoms of these conditions include fever, headache, joint pain and stiffness, stiff neck, a rash, and a lesion around the bite.
Blood-feeding ticks rely on small and large animals, including humans for food. The dog tick is the most common variety in the U.S. It can be found in wooded lots, pastures, and agricultural fields.
Spring and fall are when ticks are most active. We have a professional treatment program that will let you enjoy your outdoor property.
Tips for Tick Prevention
If you discover a tick, grasp its mouthparts as close to the skin as possible with fine tweezers and firmly pull away until it comes off. Apply an antiseptic to the wound, and be sure to describe any symptoms of a tick’s bite to your doctor.
Follow these tips to avoid tick bites:
- Wear light-colored clothing for easy tick identification
- Stay near the center of trails, and avoid shrubs and tall grass
- Tuck pant legs into socks or boots
- Wear a long-sleeved shirt tucked into your pants
- Use insect repellents on your skin and clothes – read labels and follow directions
